This is a fun project on a rainy day.
The project goes quickly and before long you will be the proud owner of a soft and warm blanket. These blankets make wonderful gifts and the material you choose can be selected based on the individuals decor, hobby or sentiment.

Things you will need:

*
Two pieces of fleece the same size. Your material pattern may differ; it does not have to match.
You can choose one of the following categories.
The same pattern for both sides.
Two different patterns.
Two different colors.
One solid, one print.
The choice is yours. I would suggest that you stick with the same type of material for both sides of your blanket. Example - If you find a pattern in blizzard material, I would choose my second layer of the blanket to be blizzard as well.
Do not be afraid to mix it up and be creative. Kids love bright cheerful colors.

*Material - The size of your blanket is determined by the individual receiving it.
Babies - I normally use 1 to 1 ½ yards of material.
Children - 1 ½ to 1 ¾ yards
Adult women - 2 to 2 ½ yards
Adult men - I always use 3 yards. Nothing is worse than having your feet hang out at the end of your blanket because it was not long enough!

*Sharp scissors

*Ruler or tape measure

*One 4" x 4" piece of paper or cardboard

Now lets get started.
I make my blankets on the floor; it gives me room to move around.
I would suggest that you vacuum the area in which you will be working. This will prevent dog hair, lint or dust bunnies sticking to your fabric.

1. Cut off rough selvage edge on both sides. (This is the side that is machine finished, not cut.) Trim only as much as necessary, usually not more than 2 inches on each side. Your goal is to trim off any access so that your pieces are as evenly matched as possible. Try and keep the pieces uniform and as straight as possible.

2. Take your two pieces of fleece, place one piece on top of the other lining up the edges so they are even. Remember to pay attention to your pattern. Lay your fleece wrong sides together, with edges matching up.

3. Cut all four corners of both layers with your 4 x 4 template. If you want your fringe longer, cut a 5 x 5 square. Cut strips or fringes along the sides of both pieces of fleece at the same time. You can use a ruler or tape measure to cut the desired width. Cut your strips 1" apart, and four inches deep.Try and keep your strips as uniform as possible. The depth of the fringe should match the depth of the corners.

4. Get comfortable, you will be on the floor for a while. I find that scooting along the edge of the blanket as I tie my knots works well. Take a piece of fringed fleece from the top and bottom of your blanket. Try to keep your pieces lined up. Tie your fringed pieces together with two knots. Some tie every other fringe piece, flip the blanket and tie the remaining pieces. I personally have found that flipping the blanket, means realigning the fringes and its more trouble than its worth. I tie all of my fringe pieces in a row without flipping the blanket.

5. I would suggest that you wash the blanket before using or giving as a gift.
