As part of the "Spirit of America Tour",
country music superstar Mel Tillis stopped here at Charleston
Air Force Base in South Carolina on Saturday, the 26th of June
and put on a wonderful performance for the base populace. During
the 2-hour show, Mel not only sang some of his best known songs,
he also told many stories and jokes throughout the performance.
It was a fantastic show and was enjoyed by all who attended.
The "Spirit of America Tour" is a production of the
Robert and Nina Rosenthal Foundation. Mr. Rosenthal and his wife
started the tour after September 11, 2001 as a show of being grateful
to the men and women in our military. Mr. Rosenthal is a retired
Hollywood entertainment lawyer.
Many performers have already taken part in this production. Those
who do take part perform for free at military bases while on their
way to their next regularly scheduled performance.
After the show, Mel happily signed autographs so I had him sign
the back of my show stub as well as the hang tag of my Patriot
Beanie. I'm donating both the autographed stub and the Patriot
Beanie to the Linda Ray Children's Center/Infants in Need, Inc.
( http://www.iin.org/ )so that
they can be auctioned to help raise money for this most worthy
cause. 100% of the profits from their auctions go directly to
support the Center. The auction ( http://www.iin.org/auction/index.php#11
) starts tomorrow evening, the 22nd and will run until next Tuesday,
the 29th, at which time the high bidder will win a unique piece
of country music and Beanie Baby nostalgia.
Here's hoping they do well on the auction!!!
John
