facts page, as it's an Ask Karen question that has been asked
a few times lately. Karen had help from Karen (Elements) with
these facts.
Re: Playdate with Spot
Playdate With Spot is a hard one to find!! It has never been
confirmed whether this was an official "promotion" or
not. What is known is that this set was sold during the 1996
Christmas season. There were only a few sent to each official
Madame Alexander retail account holder and the production number
is rumored to be 2000. Most were opened and played with because
the outfit inside was meant for the Little Huggums doll. The
Spot Beanie came with no swing tag and a 2nd generation tush tag.
The only printed information on this set is in the June 1998
edition of Marybeth's magazine with either the Britannia or Erin
cover. It is a question to the editor, not an article. During
the height of the Beanie craze this set sold for $1000+. Many
things determine the price of this set. If the box is mint you'll
command a premium. If it's dented, scratched, plastic window
coming loose, or has any type of defect you'll get much less.
As a side note: after the Christmas 1996
season ended the unsold sets were returned to Madame Alexander.
In the fall of 1997 they started showing up at a store called
"Tuesday Morning". Tuesday Morning is a closeout store.
They receive higher end merchandise and sell for wholesale prices.
Not every store received them but the ones that did sold it
for $14.99.
