(as it was released way before it appeared on the current list),
and Rally Monkey's retirement. I also asked about Rally Monkey's
style number as it is not on the hang tag and of course there
was no box to look at, which is how we find Ty Store beanies hang
tags that don't have bar codes. Here are their helpful answers.

Monarch, the San Francisco Zoo exclusive, #47053, did not have an introduction Newsflash on our website. It was added to the Beanie Babies Current list on May 9, 2007.
The Rally Monkey, the Los Angeles Angels Exclusive, #47067, was introduced in a Newsflash on May 8, 2007 and the Retirement Newsflash appeared later that same night. This Beanie Baby was posted to the Current List on the 8th as well, and moved to the Retired list on the morning of May 9th.

source.
Saturday May 26th will be an exciting day with the release of the new Cornish Exclusive. The venue for the official launch will be Abbey Bears in Padstow, Cornwall.
This day promises to be packed with exciting twist and surprises, guaranteed to please!
I have been told that there will be a special edition version of the bear available on the day of release exclusively which is Very Limited.
The regular
bear will be quite hard to find and it is reported that there
will be less quantities than the Kernow bear released last year.
Mark those calendars now as, there will be a few other surprises
for collectors on the 26th at Padstow as well.
The early bird gets the worm - Doors will open at 9.30am and it is advised to get there early. Just prior to 9.30am, the designer of the bear will give a brief presentation to those present and will reveal the remaining surprises then.
I personally envy the fine folks in the UK, what an exciting event to look forward to!

S.F. Zoo to open new grizzly habitat
The San Francisco Zoo will open a $3.7 million habitat for grizzly bears Kachina and Kiona on June 14. The orphaned sisters, who arrived in fall 2004, were rescued hours before they were scheduled to be euthanized by Montana wildlife officials who had deemed them an incorrigible nuisance for ransacking a ranch.
The bears' new 1-acre home will include a 20,000-gallon pool, heated rocks, mountain stream waterfall, meadow, climbing area and herb garden. Huge glass windows will provide eye-level and underwater viewing perspectives.
The habitat will be named Hearst Grizzly Gulch because the William Randolph Hearst Foundation donated $1 million.
The family's grizzly connections go way back. The inspiration for the San Francisco Zoo was a grizzly called Monarch, donated to the city by San Francisco Examiner publisher William Randolph Hearst in the late 1800s. Not coincidentally, the zoo will be selling Monarch Ty Beanie Babies in its store and online.

Pals, as I am only missing those three from my collection. Some

"D" reports that the 3rd set of Beatrix Potter beanies have been delayed until June at the earliest.
There seems to be a slight problem with copyright issues, which I’m sure will be resolved soon.
She also reports that she did get (1) set of the Girlz she ordered. She has a few customers who are disappointed because her full shipment did not arrive and many are interested in collecting them.
Hopefully these issues will be resolved as well. I have yet to see the Girlz in my area and if it were not for the generosity of KarenBrit, I would not have known how cute they are. As previously reported - Additional information on a NEW UK bear in the works!
There have been lots of rumors about a NEW UK bear in the works. I reported a couple of months ago that I had been told of a NEW UK bear and that the name could POSSIBLY be St. Piran. Nothing at that point had been confirmed but I reported the news as a possibility/rumor. I have since then gathered news from two VERY reliable sources who share the following ...so here are some facts!

First source information -
The new Cornish bear will be released on Saturday 26th May, and will be rarer than Kernow from last year. In addition, there will be "something special" available only to those collectors who actually attend the launch. It has also been confirmed that is the only way "the special" can be obtained. Collectors will have to be there in person - it will not be available to order! (And I understand there will be limits on what can be purchased anyway - this release is for the true collectors this time!) I understand also that there will be other surprises too!
The name of this release is DEFINITELY not Devon, as has been rumoured for a long time now - Devon is the next county to Cornwall, and is a different place. The name of the bear has not been announced yet, so any reference to St Piran cannot be confirmed, but it's safe to say that this will be a REALLY SPECIAL occasion.

As rumoured by Secret Bean on the beanieUk board, which is a fairly new Ty related msn group, and a really good one I might add, I only recently joined it but there are lots of collectors there that I new through emailing so its really nice and there are loads of different subjects to join in with, a photo gallery for each member, a trade and sell area for members, a place to list your collection if you want to and tons more :) anyhow, where was I ....oh yes, Secret Bean, the elusive but spookily accurate beanie source.... they are correct in their rumours that there is to be ANOTHER CORNISH EXCLUSIVE!!!!! He is to be released to the world on MAY 26th, a Saturday, and luckily for us at Abbey Bears, we get the honour of launching him at our new shop in Padstow! He will be a bear the same style as Kernow is so will sit really nicely alongside him and for those who are able to make it to the venue for the launch of this new Cornish bear there will be a 'Special Item' also available-of which I am sworn to secrecy on ..... sorry msjanie...but it makes it all exciting and it will be worth it for sure :)))
I will do a short ( I promise ) report on the release date for you and I will include lots of pictures so that those who are not able to make it for the day may kind of feel as if they were there:)

A quick update from Ms. Janie,
I have the most amazing readers in the world! Several of you have indicated that you have been tested for thyroid disease since I announced I was diagnosed with Graves Disease back in 2001. Many of you found that you did in fact have a thyroid problem and would not had known if you had not requested the test. Some of you had already been diagnosed and have shared your own experiences, which have been very helpful in my own treatment.
The reason I share this is because, once gain, one of my readers has tipped me off to a change that was made to the reference range used by labs and given to doctors to properly prescribe medications. I conducted some research and found that this change took place a while ago and two of my doctors and two different labs are using the old reference numbers. This may explain why my medications have not been working as well as they should have. The reference range has changed quite a bit, without the doctors or labs even aware of this change.
The standard was that the normal range for TSH at most laboratories has fallen in the 0.5 to 5.0 range, with hyperthyroidism being below .5, and hypothyroidism above 5.0.
The new guidelines, however, the range for acceptable thyroid function, and thyroid treatment should be considered for patients who test between the target TSH levels of 0.3 to 3.0, a far narrower range.
The AACE estimates that the new guidelines actually double the number of people who have abnormal thyroid function, bringing the total to as many as 27 million, up from 13 million thought to have the condition under the old guidelines.
It simply amazes me that my doctors nor did my lab know of this change. My medication for the past five years has been based on old guidelines. My doctor did confirm the change after I questioned him and he looked into the matter. He was embarrassed and angry that a patient had to bring this to his attention.
I thank all of you who have contacted me. Your support, stories, knowledge and love, mean a great deal. Maybe, together we can conquer this dreaded disease.

A quick note from Ms. Janie,
As many of you are aware I have Graves Disease. After a yearly physical it has been discovered that my thyroid numbers are once again out of line. I have been experiencing some side effects, which are not pleasant and have had a decreased level of activity due to hypothyroidism.
I will continue to update the site as news becomes available and newsletters will be published when there is enough news to share.
If any of you understand thyroid numbers and their meaning, I would like to hear from you. The more research I do, the more confused I get! It’s beyond me how you can go from Hyper to Hypo in a three month time span. Numbers that appear to be high are actually low, mood swings are an everyday occurrence, one minute you are up and the next minute you are down! While blood work may look good one month, the next month they are all over the place! One minute you are sitting in front of a fan to cool down, and the next minute you are under blankets freezing. Now I know what many of you are thinking, Ms. Janie isn’t having thyroid problems, they are just age related women problems. WRONG, I have them both, isn’t life grand?
Who would have known that a small butterfly shaped gland in your throat would control every fiber of your being. I strongly encourage women to have their thyroid checked at least once a year. The simple blood test is not part of your normal blood work done during a physical or check-up. Many of the symptoms are related to other illnesses but should not be mistaken for them. This disease plagues women and is on the rise!
Located at the base of your neck, the thyroid gland is responsible for secreting hormones that regulate metabolism. Hormones in the thyroid gland work when signaled by a hormone from the pituitary gland called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). If the thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism), the pituitary gland sends out more and more TSH. High levels of TSH, more than 10 mg/dl, usually indicate hypothyroidism. Accompanying symptoms include weight gain, depression, hair loss and joint pain. Someone with an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) will most likely have low TSH levels, less than .5 mg/dl. Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism include unexplained weight loss, rapid heartbeat and tremors.
I get both of these symptoms on a recurring basis, it all has to do with the numbers and how your thyroid is functioning. One month you can be Hyper and the next be Hypo! My medications are changed often to help with fluctuating conditions.

Businesses band together to raise funds for March of Dimes
Each day, more than 1,300 babies are born prematurely and researchers are still trying to figure out why. Funding gathered through the March of Dimes helps to gather more understanding of an issue that plagues new parents every day.
Pre-term birth can lead to many defects and disabilities including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, learning problems, chronic lung disease and vision or hearing problems. It's believed that premature birth is the cause of nearly half of all neurological disabilities in children.
Division Director for the Greater Kansas Chapter of March of Dimes Jill Bosley said that El Dorado raised $12,000 for the cause last year.
In the last few years, Anthony said Frontier has sold "a lot of Beanie Babies" in an effort to raise money for March of Dimes.

Zoo, baby Lemurs. Maybe it's their little yellow eyes but everyone

On April 3rd a pair of highly endangered black and white ruffed Lemurs were brought into the world. Brother and sister are said to be doing fine in spite of weighing only 5 ounces at birth.
Their parents arrived at the zoo in 2004 and gave birth to twin males in May, and now this adorable pair has arrived. Lemurs are native to the Island of Madagascar.

Oregon Army National Guard Sgt. Kenneth Heywood received 108 babies in the mail on Friday.
And the proud
father couldn't be happier — that they were Beanie Babies
dubbed "Salute" dressed in desert camouflage sent at
no charge by TY Industries based in Bolingbrook, Ill.
"I didn't expect this — what a nice thing to do,"
he said. "I want to give them to young kids whose parents
are in Afghanistan. It will bring comfort to them."
The Phoenix resident, an 18-year veteran of the Guard, is a member of the Guard's 1-186 Infantry Battalion headquartered in Ashland. Roughly 100 members of the 1-186 are currently deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Tigard-based 41st Brigade Combat Team, although some are expected to begin returning home next month.
The deployment of Beanie Babies, a company of tiny Teddy bears dressed in light-colored camouflage, was the result of an e-mail that Heywood had sent to the company after purchasing one on the Oregon coast about three weeks ago.

A special thanks to my friend KarenBrit for sending me one of her Ty Girlz in advance. Without her kind gesture I would not had been able to Log Into the Ty Girlz website. After checking around and realizing that there were no reports on the Ty Girlz site, I thought I would share my own experience.
First off, allow me to say WOW!!!!!!!
This was nothing like I expected, a total surprise, kids of all
ages will enjoy the site! I truly mean that!
Now that I have entered the site, let me share how exciting my
visit was!
The Ty Girlz tour is great! The games
are awesome, at first I was a little slow at Paparazzi but once
I got the hang of it, I loved playing.
Jewell Jam was also fun but you have to be quick with clicking
the mouse!
Music Maker allows you to put on your own concert and you have
full control of the music.
Three Girlz in a row - You must arrange a puzzle so that you line-up
three girls in a row. This one was a little more challenging for
me, but kids will love it. There are 4 other games which I did
not play, but have plans to go back and enjoy later.
I did enter the Girlz chat room but need more time to find my way around. It looks like it may be a cool place to hang out and have some fun.
Of course the bank is always my favorite place to go. I was surprised to learn that I had already earned four dollars in my account for the Ty Girlz games I played. I must make a note to go back there and have more fun and earn more money!
I must admit, Ty did a fabulous job on the Ty Girlz page. It is full of exciting things to do, offers challenge and keeps you looking for more! I am totally impressed and will say that the wait was worth it! If I sound a little excited, it’s because I am. As in The Price Is Right - You never know what may be lurking behind curtain number three, BUT in this case, Ty truly has a HIT behind all of the curtains.
I hope you have the opportunity to have as much fun as I did with Ty Girlz.

I have signed up for e-mail alerts from Ty and did not get this message, but it may explain the delay in the Girlz line.
Many have also made comments about the Ty Girlz and Gann Webkins being similar. While the concept may be similar, one is based upon animals and the other is based upon teen girls. It does appear that online virtual reality has gained in popularity and once the Girlz are shipped, I expect sales to soar. The website is a very important part behind this line, without it the concept simply does not work!
I know MANY are frustrated over the long wait, but I just keep reminding them, all good things are worth waiting for!

The Beanie Baby’s cute and rather comforting countenance had been altered by a mixture of flour, water and sugar.
Peace had been dipped in batter and disturbingly deep-fried.
Many of the companions of this once sought-after collectible have met a similar fate, courtesy of artist Scott Snyder. He is reincarnating the Beanies as high art objects in what he calls a foray into the "beauty and absurdity of culture and the art market."
You can see the crispy critters in an exhibit Saturday at Space 39, the gallery at Patio de Leon in Fort Myers’ downtown River District through the end of April.
Snyder, who is also a curator, assistant professor and director of the art gallery at Florida Gulf Coast University, says the speculation and hype about the stuffed animals in the ’90s mimics the insanity of the "high art" market.
"I’m not dissing a Beanie Baby and I’m not dissing high art," he said. "It brings into question, ‘Why do people collect these things? If they’re worth $5, why were they worth hundreds of dollars on the secondary market?’"

Some people have been hearing talk on the Ty boards about Lena's
"monkey room". I had the honour of visiting "da
monkeys" last year. I've got Lena's blessings to share a

The picture of the Attic Treasures is just one wall of Lena's Attic collection. The entire room was full! Such a wonderful collection!
Then in the monkey room we have me (RodeoQueen) with the Schweethearts. Not my most flattering picture - I must have been tied at that point. Then there's a pic of some more monkeys and gorillas.
Then George likes to play dress up and become Georgette. Um, I'm not sure what that says but I think he (she?) was gearing up for a Mardi Gras party... hee hee!

mystery continues.
It was originally reported that there would be a UK exclusive
Boblin. When Ty introduced the Boblins, their graphic did display
the UK as an exclusive. Today, the Ty graphic has changed and
there is NO mention of the UK.

pack...I chose Wilbur instead of Gussy. What's different about
the retail Wilbur v.s. the gift pack Wilbur? Well, for one thing,
the gift pack Wilbur is missing the rectangular Charlotte's Web
tag that the retail Wilbur & Gussy have. The other thing is
the style number...on the retail Wilbur, the style number is 40449
& on the gift set Wilbur, the style number is 47061. The Ty
heart tag is identical except for the differing style numbers.

THE KONA VILLAGE
RESORT on the Big Island has been bought by a joint-venture partnership
of MSD Capital, the private investment firm for Michael Dell and
family, and Rockpoint Group, a global investment management firm.
Previous owner, Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, will retain an interest
in the property. Kona Village is adjacent to the Hualalai Resort,
purchased by MSD Capital and Rockpoint Group in June 2006. According
to representatives of the joint venture, the two properties will
retain independent identities, with plans in the making for upgrades
to the 125-unit Kona Village.

Ty sure does appear to be busy behind the scenes with exclusives from various manufactures, cartoon TV show Beanies, Ty Girlz, and who knows what else may be coming down the pike!
Their enthusiasm can become infectious and before you know it, you are caught up in a whirlwind of Ty products, each and everyone of them offering special memories.
I personally
am excited about the Girlz. I am not sure why I am attracted to
them, maybe its their vibrant color schemes, or it could be that
at 47 and very old fashioned, its time for me to cut loose and
have some fun. Although I could never imagine myself with pink
or blue hair, and unfortunately by body would not do the clothing
justice, I am willing to use my imagination and go for it! Rumor
has it that 40’s are the new 20’s - YEAH I can go back
and do it all over again! YIKES, do I really want to?
BRING ON THE GIRLS
On another note, the weather in Virginia is absolutely beautiful today! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the flowers are starting to bloom. Although I could do without the pollen and the bugs, I will not complain.

First-graders collect Beanie Babies for babies at Strong
First-graders
at Washington Irving Elementary School in Gates collected 226
lightly used and new Beanie Babies and donated them to the Strong
Memorial Hospital Neonatal Unit.
They will be used to position preemie babies in their Isolettes
or cribs. The idea began at Elim Gospel Church in Lima, where
Sharon Oppedisano attends. Oppedisano, a Washington Irving first-grade
teacher, heard a church presentation from a Strong Hospital nurse.
"She said the wing doesn't always have the basic needs such as rocking chairs and it tugged at my heart," she said. "I talked to the nurse and she suggested the Beanie Babies and teddy bears would be a great way to help. Then I thought this would be something that first-graders would just love."
She teamed
with another first-grade teacher, Shannon Parmele, who brought
her school kids into the project. The school sent out flyers and
also hung some outside the first-grade doors.
"I was just so surprised and overwhelmed at how generous
everybody was," said Oppedisano. "One mother brought
in a whole bag of new Beanie Babies. And some of our kids who
have been to the Strong Hospital felt a connection and were very
excited to do something for the babies."
The collection lasted three weeks and the Beanie Babies were sent to the hospital last month.

It's neither the biggest cottage nor the only one with an ocean view. But it commands at least $1,000 more a night than other lodgings at the historic San Ysidro Ranch in the Montecito hills.
That's because John and Jackie Kennedy slept in it during their extended 1953 honeymoon, which, biographers say, took them first to Acapulco, Mexico, and later up the California coast.
The future first couple probably paid $27 a night, the going rate then. But today you'll pay more than 100 times that — $2,990 a night — to sleep in the 1,621-square-foot Kennedy Cottage, which reopened last weekend after a yearlong restoration.
Gone is the plain wood deck in the rear, replaced by a 480-square-foot stone terrace sporting an outdoor shower and a six-person hot tub. A gated front entrance, with a private courtyard, is also new. Baths off the twin master suites have been redone with white tile, polished-nickel fixtures, glass-door showers and classic claw-foot tubs. White gauze graces the canopied king beds.
Don't look for original furnishings. The eclectic décor, with Asian-style chests, animal paintings and pig and rooster figurines, was gleaned from antiques stores and the world travels of the resort's owner, Beanie Babies tycoon Ty Warner.

Girlzs just want to have fun
...and boy
they will ! The new site looks great ! It looks like the site
is exactly how it was described-make a room, go shopping, play
games, and chat. The images for the Girlz are slightly different
than how they were seen before but they still look cool.
Hopefully young girls will like them as much (or more) as the
Webkinz. But if you ask me I think retailers are going to put
them in the back of the store with the Beanies. Hopefully Ty will
tell them to put them next to the Webkinz or put the Webkinz in
the back with the Beanies ! I would hate it if they didn't sell
well.
And Ty can do so much with these too. He can make famous girls
into Girlz (if that makes sense) suck as Miley Cyrus (or Hannah
Montana) or JoJo. Both are huge ! And Ty can even have commercials
for them and have Miley endorse them ! Then people would see them.
And if you ask me Destiny looks a lot like Miley Cyrus (and both
share the same name, Miley is just a nickname. And the pic on
Wikipedia shows her wearing the "Hannah" wig. She really
is a brunette).
But of course, you can't have Girlz without the Boyz. Hopefully
these will come later, and be on the same site or a different
one. Ty could make Zac Efron or the Sprouse twins (girl LOVE them).
Yes I wrote a lot and I am just really exited for the collection
! And if you don't know who the people I mentioned are just reply
back and I can explain. But they are on TV and very famous

Trio puts Beanies in hands of orphans
Once all the rage, they now languish on crowded bedroom shelves or are banished to boxes in basements.
Yet, they could be a glimmer of hope and a toy to treasure for an orphan in a developing country.
Geneva High School students Rachel and Sarah Osburn and their mother, Peggy, have collected thousands of Beanie Babies over the years to hand out in various locations.
At least five of Powell’s students raised their hands when asked if they had more than 20 Beanie Babies.
The collection drive started around the holidays and runs through May 31 at the school. It is open to donations from the public. Call (630) 262-8109 for more information.
"The Beanie Babies are our way of sending hugs to them," Powell said.
Two years ago, Rachel, now a senior, helped collect 5,000 Beanie Babies at the high school. This time around, the family hopes to take 300 pounds of dolls on the flight with any left over distributed by the First Baptist Church of Geneva.

April Fool bear arrived today and just in time, as I want to take
one on Saturday to the Milwaukee Bucks (basketball) game. The
'energy dance team' (aka cheerleaders) invited Girl Scouts to
watch them warm up and teach them a dance, so I think this bear,
with the Buck's colors, would make a nice Thank You gift to them.

Roger Federer's campaign at the 2007 Pacific Life Open may have been cut unexpectedly short, but tennis' top ambassador made sure his stay in Indian Wells included a visit with the tournament's ball kids.

A single e-mail, he said, prompted the donation of 8,000 Beanie Babies that were given by soldiers to Iraqi children on the street, at checkpoints and at schools as a way to establish a relationship and aid in building trust. Summertime Oddity
Hi Ms. Janie,
I've been meaning to send you this pic for some time now. One
of my customers brought this by for me to see. It's a Summertime
Fun Atlanta with 2 right feet. Now the question is, is there one
out there with 2 left feet?
As for the
Basket Beanies, I just got off the phone with Ty customer service.
According to
them, NO Basket Beanies have shipped yet since they haven't even
been received in the Ty
warehouse yet. They were supposed to arrive last week but didn't
and will hopefully arrive any day. Just thought your readers should
know this since I know there have been some ebay auctions claiming
to have them in hand. The only place those little cuties were
live was at Toy Fair.

Being cheeky as I am, I was just wondering if it would be possible to let your readers know that as of Tuesday evening ( UK time ! LOL ) I will be on Holiday/Vacation!!!! Hi Ms Janie
Today I think of it as Pancake Tuesday! I thought I'd share this
recipe, as it took me a bit of tweaking to adjust from weighing
everything in England, to using cup measures in America (which
are mucg easier to do!).
We have always had pancakes Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. I understood it to have started when people would use up their milk, eggs and flour before Lent. However, I've heard different stories too.
The recipe I use for an English Pancake is simple:
1 cup Plain
Flour (All Purpose Flour)
1 1/4 Cup Milk (Usually have blue top 2% in)
2 Eggs (Usually have jumbo in)
Put it all in a bowl and use a hand whisk to mix - it doesn't
take long
Serve with
Sugar sprinkled over pancake
Squeeze Orange Quarters over pancake, or Orange juice is ok
or squeeze fresh Lemons (depending on taste/preference)
Directions:
Heat oil in a frying pan until quite hot, but not burning. It
helps crisp the pancake. Flip (or toss if you feel lucky...but
be careful of hot oil) to cook the other side.
Sprinkle with
sugar and then squeeze fresh orange or lemon over it. You can
roll it (like a crepe) and slice to eat, or just eat it flat on
the plate.

A couple of
notes:
(1) You can save any extra in a container and reuse for a few
days after if refridgerated. You will just need to whisk it again
as the ingredients separate a little. If pancake doesn't brown
in pan, then it's been stored too long.
(2) Also with extra you can use for Popovers or Yorkshire Pudding. It's the same recipe. When you've cooked a roast beef, drain some of the meat juices into cupcake pan or small oven proof pan, heat until oil is very hot, pour in mixture and let rise. Serve with roast beef and gravy.

A kid who worries about kids in a war
The war in Iraq began when Alison Goulder was in middle school. She now is a sophomore in high school, and the war continues. She most likely will be in college (or graduated) before our involvement in the conflict comes to anything close to an end.
The last generation to have war as a backdrop to their youth, from grammar school to high school and beyond, was mine.
Alison, on the other hand, has been thinking about our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and the children impacted by war for nearly three years. Back in 2004, she read about a program to send the little stuffed animals called Beanie Babies to American troops in Iraq so that they could hand them out to Iraqi children. Alison had quite a few of the toys but had grown out of them. She decided to donate her collection to the cause. She even got other kids in her grade school involved.
"Then it just kind of took off," she said.
Individuals and businesses offered to contribute. During the past couple of years, with the help of her family and assistance from the organizations like Glendale's Packages from Home, Alison has shipped more than 50,000 Beanie Babies overseas. And she isn't finished.

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I ask Ms Janie to post the loss of a fellow trader, Pat Gaddis of Newport beach, CA passed away this past Saturday morning on way to hospital, Pat was well known in the beanie world, more so in the Japan promo world. Pat was the mom of 5 kids and I think 7 grandchildren.

then a friend to me, she was like a mom, we met threw beanies
and became fast friends, we chatted every Monday night on the
phone before 24 came on, she loved Keefer Sutherland,...........in
our last chat Friday night she was laughing and told me, "Joanne
you always make me laugh"........I will hold that near in
my heart, Even now writing this I am fighting back the tears,
she truly was a great lady with a gentle soul...............

Following on from Joanne's memories of Pat Gaddis, I too have
shared many moments with Pat, both online and on the phone. She
was an avid Beanie collector and a lot of fun to chat with. We
covered all sorts of subjects from property taxes, to weather,
and always had something to discuss on beanies.
We actively pursued completing our collections of Sports Commemorative Beanies, and we looked after one another and had a list of what each was missing. Pat has an incredible collection of oddities, variations, etc. She sent all purchases to Becky of True Blue Beans to make sure they were authentic and have them authenticated.
She recently

The getaway car -- loaded with 145 purloined Beanie Babies -- got stuck in the snow early Saturday in Norton Shores.
Not willing
to lose his loot, the alleged Beanie Baby burglar got a pickup
truck from a friend's home, drove back to the intersection of
Worden Street and Sunbury Avenue and tossed the stuffed critters
into the truck bed.
What the 37-year-old suspect didn't know was that Norton Shores
police were already on the way.

First report
from Ty Fair
(D) a retailer friend kindly shares the following report from
Toy Fair. Please know that I tried to listen as carefully as possible,
but there was a lot of background noise, so this report is subject
to change.
Ty was very
approachable and allowed retailers to take photos. The GIRLZ were
introduced using a video on a large screen TV with music. Live
models were introduced dressed just like the dolls holding their
counterparts.
The booth was packed, filled with excitement, and lots of clapping.
The dolls are so different from anything else out there. Twelve
of each of the 6 a total of 24 dolls per style will be offered.
Rumor has it that a couple of them will retire fast! The dolls
have names, sealed security code for interactive website. Tiny
pink purses are being handed out to retailers, inside the purses
there is a calling card with the name of a doll and a 800 number
to call. The calling cards say’s (Let’s Talk).

1st -Early report from Toy Fair
Hi Janie, you won't believe it. I'm helping a friend set up for the Toy Fair in NY and I stopped in the press booth. There are hundreds of plastic bins on the walls of the press office with each companies name on them. Of course, I looked to see if Ty had a bin - they did! Ty Warner is going to be at Toy Fair at noon on Sunday to personally introduce the Ty Girlz. I walked by the Ty booth. They have a huge flat panel TV (the biggest I've ever seen) right in the middle of their booth. Looks like it will be quite a show. I'm going to stay an extra day and hope I can meet Ty. I'll try and get some pictures for you.

Dear Ms. Janie. I saw the story on your website about Ty's new Girlz and went with my friend to Birmingham. I couldn't believe it, everyone from Ty was so nice (and very busy), talked to me about the Girlz and they LET ME TAKE PICTURES! These dolls are so special when you see them in person. The detail in the outfits is fantastic. What we haven't seen yet is the website that everyone on the stand was talking about. There is scratch off secret code inside each hangtag. Every code is different and you can't see it until you scratch off the silver covering over the code. A nice Ty agent told me that the website was going to be a virtual world where you can interact with others. You can take you Girlz into each others houses and go shopping and buy things for your virtual house. There will be an online chat line that is reviewed by Ty employees so the site will be safe for children - just like ty.com is. I also think that Ty is going to retire some of these really quick. I was able to hold the one doll that wasn't in a case. The hair is so soft and shiny. I couldn't stop playing with it. I have never seen anything like these dolls, I think Ty has out done himself.

Kona Village Resort sold to Mainland groups
The firm that manages Michael Dell's investments is buying the Kona Village Resort on the Big Island, next door to the Hualalai resort community that Dell's firm bought last year.
MSD Capital and Rockpoint Group bought
the 82-acre Kona Village for an amount that was not disclosed,
the companies announced Tuesday.
The seller of Kona Village, Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, will
keep a financial interest in the property, which it acquired in
2004.

KOMO 4 Problem Solvers were hoping you could help make Brenda Slylstad's day. And you have.
We told you Brenda Skylstad couldn't afford the cost of shipping donated care packages, that weighted close to 400 lbs, to her daughter Angela and her unit in Iraq. It would have cost Brenda $500. It was money she didn't have.
Mark Delara contacted me and said he wanted to use his tax refund to pay for it all.
He had to work Monday and couldn't get away, so I got to do the honors and present the donation to Brenda.
"Mark Delara has a check for you for $500," I presented her with the check. "Oh my Gosh!" Brenda wept. "Wow. This is so cool. This is too cool. Oh my gosh."

I gave Brenda 150 Beanie Babies from McDonalds. They were gifts from another viewer, Donna Coy.

Don't Be Fooled By Counterfeit Sports Memorabilia
You can bet footballs and photographs autographed by both the Colts and Bears players will already be circulating in the sports memorabilia market by tomorrow. But before you race to a store or online auction site to buy one of these signed pieces of history, CBS 2's Consumer Reporter, Kirstin Cole, has a warning about this billion dollar plus industry.
You can find the whole 9 yards of autographed items signed by just about every major league, NHL, NBA and NFL player. And while it's easy to score something very cool, it may also be very counterfeit.
"It is not uncommon for players like Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, some of the more popular players in the market place, to receive a rejection percentage of 50% or more," says sports memorabilia authenticator, Joe Orlando.
With hidden cameras, we bought three items: an autographed picture by Yankee's great, Derek Jeter; a baseball signed by actress Jaime Lee Curtis; and a hockey puck signed by Ranger Jason Ward -- finding it at Living Legends on Long Island. It's a store that avid baseball fan, Rabbi Paul Kushner, says he's shopped at for years. "I got a bat signed by Jose Reyes which I gave to my son in Jersey," says Rabbi Kushner, who even had the store host an auction at his temple. "One man bought a bunch of expensive items for a boy who had just become Bar Mitzvahed."

Hi,
There will be a new set of 6 Ty Asia Pacific bears out next month.
One of the retailers here in Malaysia showed me pictures of the
bears on her order form but I'm sorry I can't share photos at
this point.
Each bear has a solid colour with a map of its country on the chest and the name of the country below the map, except for the Singapore bear which has an emblem of its mythical creature - the Merlion - on its chest and no name of country below it.
I have no idea why the Singapore bear is the odd one out - or maybe there are 2 versions of each bear and the order form I saw only showed 1 variation?
The bears are:
Daichi (blue, Japan), Merlion (red, Singapore), Downunder (dark
green, Australia), Kia Ora (black, New Zealand), Panjumom (not
sure if I spelled it correctly - turquoise blue, Korea), and Tanahair
Ku (yellow, Malaysia).
I cannot remember what colour threads were used for each country's
map or the Merlion.
Tanahair Ku in Bahasa Malaysia means "My Homeland".

A Unhappy Retailer
Hi Ms. Janie...I know your site isn't entirely devoted to Ty products, so that's why I am writing to you about the new Webkins.
I am a small retailer in Illinois and I've had an account with The Ganz Company that produces the Webkins, for almost 8 years. I haven't ordered from them for about 2 years now because the local Rep is very pushy and tries to bully Retailers into buying product they don't want or need. Anyway, I decided to start carrying the new Webkins, after doing some research on them and after talking to other retailers who carry the line. I called my Rep, only to be told that if I wanted to order them, I would need to place an order of $1000 in other product before I could order the Webkins. Not only was I flabbergasted to hear this, but I was more than a little mad. This is outrageous and very unethical, in my opinion. The company is having a hard time delivering the product and retailers are not getting full orders. Sounds a little bit like Ty in the early years when the Beanies took off and they couldn't meet the demand. As a small retailer, I not only cannot afford to order an extra $1,000 in product that I don't want, but I feel that this is a very poor way to run a company. Initially, they may get the orders, but it will come back to haunt them. I've decided to take a stand and not give in to a huge money hungry corporation that is based in Canada. Shame on them!
I'm telling all my customers about this and will ask that they boycott the company!

U.S. Toy recalls 143,000 children's necklaces
The necklaces were made in China and are intended for children ages 8-14, Michael Klein, U.S. Toy's president, said Wednesday.
Only the clasps
on the necklaces exceeded the allowable levels of lead, Klein
said. The chains and pendants were made by one manufacturer, which
used an outside vendor to make the clasp, he said.
U.S. Toy sold about $15,000 worth of the necklaces, Klein said.
The recall will cost it less than $1,000. This kind of recall
is rare for the company, he said.
In a release, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said
the items were sold between August and December.

What a wonderful surprise package. Four fat colorful plastic envelopes, each with a handle slot. I opened these very carefully from the back. Look what I found inside....4 wonderful bears. They differ from regular beanie bears in some ways. The size is a bit smaller than a regular size beanie as you can see with a contrast between Beary Much & My Trusty. Eyes & nose are sewn black thread. The heart tag is one flat piece like the McDonald teenie beanies. Also the bears have their own special tush tag. Marilyn

'Punxy Phil' Beanie Baby Proceeds Help Needy
Punxsutawney
Phil is being put to work to raise money for the local American
Red Cross.
Monday, the latest Beanie Baby, Punxy Phil, went on sale.
The $6 donation
will go directly to the Red Cross Disaster Fund.
Barbara Taylor, executive director of the Red Cross, said the
fund helps people in all types of situations.
"I think that people think that the Red Cross helps when they hear about huge disasters -- ice storms, snow storms. But people don't realize that we give back to the local community to help people begin rebuilding their lives," said Barbara Taylor, executive director of the Red Cross.
The Beanie
Baby Phils are unique to this region and are in limited supply
at the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona or at the Red Cross offices
in Bedford and Blair Counties.
Groundhog Day is February 2.

May I show you my own creation "Family Ty's" Beanie! After donating many of my Beanies to Beanies for Baghdad and local community agencies I had a huge amount of Ty Hang tags left. I remove the hang tags before I donate any beanie since I'm concerned that a child might chew on the tag and swallow the red plastic connector. I also can not bring myself to throw away a Ty tag. My solution was that I would make me a beanie bear with the Ty hang tags. I cut up the tags in very small pieces and pasted them to an 8x10" canvas board, in the shape of a beanie. I chose the name Family Ty's since I would love to have a beanie by that name and he was made out of "Ty's" hang tags.
I also made a "Family Ty's" portrait for my 2 grand daughters and their families. My daughter's had mixed feelings about being beanie babies but my grand daughters love the portraits. (0: My son in-law's had no comments! (0:
The red bears
are the front of the Ty tags and the other bears are the back
of the Ty tags which I left white or touched up with paint. The
smallest bear in the 2nd portrait is my grand son which is still
in diapers!(0: I varnish the bears for protection. All the bears
have a sparkle to them from the gold around the Ty hang tag. I
hope you enjoy the pictures of my beanie "Family Ty's"

Hundreds of Beanie Babies have new homes, thanks to Maxine Shippy.
The stuffed toys began their lives as part of a collection Maxine amassed over a two- or three-year span. In their later years, they languished in plastic bins at Maxine's Longview home.
Over Thanksgiving, an idea came to light.

Woman impressed by grandson's care at Children's unit

grandma has a lot of Beanie Babies.
"I love my Beanies," said Donna Keller. "I've been
collecting them for 13 years. I stood in the lines at the Bavarian
Toy Works, I've been collecting a long time."
But Keller loves her 4-year-old grandson more and was so inspired by his journey back to health at Children's Hospital after a car crash she has decided to give her collection to the Columbus hospital.
"They took such good care of Daulton," Donna said.
She once had a room devoted to the beloved collection, including hundreds of bears and other bean-filled animals. Donna has been considering what to do with her collection, and the special little boy in her life provided the inspiration.
"(I thought) 'I wish I could do something with these,'" she said, adding the decision came to her like flipping a switch.
It has been two years since Donna's husband, Lonnie, and Daulton were in the crash on U.S. 50 that injured the little boy and put him in the hospital for 11 days. Daulton's parents spent days and nights with him, and his grandparents visited at all times, and the toddler was in a cast for eight months.

Packing, shipping and postage will be handled by Operation Homefront - La Crosse Coulee Region of La Crosse, which will ship to soldiers basically from La Crosse, Trempealeau, Jackson, Monroe and Vernon counties.
Women enjoy items that make them feel feminine. If you want to make your gift special, enclose a personal note of support or a picture drawn by your child. Beanie babies (they don’t have to be new, just clean and in very excellent condition) are easy for the soldiers to carry and share with Iraqi children who love them. Ty Beanie Babies: For many, a collectible bear. For some, a cute bear to treasure. For Sue Davolt of Bolivar, one of many memories of her 25 years as a Hallmark store owner.
"People would literally follow the delivery truck, we'd open the cartons and people would take as many as we would let them," she said.
For several years after Sue and her husband, Jim, purchased the store from Gretchen and Bob Jones in July 1982, collectibles were big. In addition to Hallmark's line of collectible Christmas ornaments, Davolt said Precious Moments figurines were coming into popularity in 1982.
"We had five or six figurines in our store," she said. "Then we couldn't keep enough of them.
"We went through the height of the collectibles, and that's leveled out. Now it's more home decor and entertaining."
Davolt Hallmark
was selected as a Gold Crown store at the inception of the program
in 1994. The consumer-reward program gives customers an opportunity
to save money on future purchases, and Hallmark also has Gold
Crown store-exclusive merchandise.
Though the store now has a manager and assistant manager, Sue
has known how to do everything in the store.
"As the
owner of a small retail business, you learn to do everything,"
she said. "I've always been a real hands-on person. The girls
say they feel like they work with me, not for me."
After 25 years in the Hallmark business, some habits will be hard
to break, such as straightening cards in the racks and keeping
tabs on other Hallmark stores.
"We never went anywhere without Mom having to check out the
Hallmark store," Sue said.

Elementary schools aid troops
Paradise Valley elementary school students are finding ways to
show support to troops in Iraq.
Fourth-graders at Cherokee Elementary School, 8801 N. 56th St., sent 100 "care boxes" to an army unit serving overseas before school let out for the summer as a part of a service project aimed at thanking the soldiers for their bravery. Collect Beanie Babies to send to soldiers overseas, said Kiva Elementary students have largely enhanced her collections.
The goal of the Beanie Baby Ambassador program is to send the beanies for troops to distribute to the native children to foster positive relations, Ms. Hess said.

I know this story will make a few people smile and that some will

Most would say the day I began collecting Ty, is the day I "lost it" haha. But I say the day I lost it, was not when I began buying the critters, but when I began buying stuff FOR the critters hahaha.
Attached is a pic of our gifts to Johnny. We got this adorable John Deere cookie jar along with s&p shakers (the silo and shed) for 50% off at post holiday clearance at Walmart. Today I am celebrating becoming an American citizen. The ceremony
was this morning.
I have waited a long time to do this, but because I get very anxious when tests are involved, I delayed doing so. I've been studying American history for a long time now, and fellow beanie friends had lists of questions to ask me and helped quiz me, and at the interview I got all my questions right.
Now I can truly feel I belong, have a voice, and not only vote for President, but also the School Board, since I'll be on the electoral list.

Black 2007 beanie looks quite striking with the retail 2007 beanie.
There was a sheet of Black & a sheet of Green tissue paper
folded around the beanies. Black's style number is 44096. Unfortunately,
a mistake was made & instead of one box of 2, I received two
boxes, each with 2 2007 beanies. So I had a choice of 2 out of
4 & have written Ty Store to get details on how to send back
the extra box & get a refund. I'm still waiting for Feder
bear & the BBOM for which I received a shipped notice on December
2nd is still not here...so quite late in receiving. I had an extra
special beanie visiting weekend & just opened my packages
a short while ago.

provides such great information.
Recently I was visiting my son and his girlfriend. They both work for distributing companies and they had this cute little house display that none of their stores wanted or had room for. When I found out they were going to throw it out, I immediately professed that I had a much better purpose for it than the recycling bin!
As you can see by the attached photo, this turned into a gorgeous display of a lot of (but not all) my Christmas beanies. I have it sitting in my office and have gotten lots of nice compliments on it.

Just the other day, Marlene in VA and I were talking about what
a HUGE leap the order numbers took between ordering Feder-bear
and 2007 2 days later. Over 91,000. Feder-bear was well advertised.
I wonder if it's sold out because they all sold so quickly.
We both ordered Feder-bear within a short time of one another and our numbers were 320 apart. When I ordered 2007 early on, the order numbers had gone up over 30,000, and by the time Marlene ordered her 2007, the number jump from my Feder-bear order and her 2007 order 2 days later, had jumped by 91,280.
I don't know if you can go by order numbers or not, but I thought it was interesting.

to Sell Miramar Hotel
Beanie Babies mogul Ty Warner is giving up his fight over the
Miramar Hotel in Montecito.
In a statement released Tuesday night, an executive for Warner says the billionaire has decided to sell the landmark following a bitter battle with the Montecito Association.
Warner purchased the hotel last year with the intentions of renovating it.
He also wanted to build a public access stairway at Butterfly Beach.

has just been published by Scholastic Inc. The book is now available

Toy makers behind the '80s resurgence -- which also includes untold versions of Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Cabbage Patch Kids, My Little Pony and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- are hoping today's 20- and 30-somethings will try to relive Christmases past.
Teddy Ruxpin, Baby Alive, Holly Hobbie and even 1990s toys such as Elmo and Troll dolls are coming back for another run under the Christmas tree.
Toy makers say the '80s toys capture characteristics every parent wants for a child: imagination and wholesomeness. And grown-ups' rush of memories upon seeing Care Bears or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may help loosen the purse strings.
"Parents absolutely have a tendency to lean toward products and brands that their mom or they used as kids, no matter what category it is," said Sharon John, a general manager at Hasbro, which makes Baby Alive and My Little Pony. "The first time you buy laundry detergent, you're going to use what your mother used."

In the basement lie special memories
A dad's job is not an easy one. It has many unpleasant duties and some that are even unkind.
It's not unusual for dads. We are often the bringers of lightning and punishment. "You just wait until your father gets home!" Even worse, dads often get to be the one to chauffeur the family's favorite pet to the last roundup at the vet's office.
"Here
we go, buddy, let's go see a special friend."
Smart dads come home with a new puppy or kitten and never, ever
admit to offing "Old Bucky."
"Yes, I found her right after I put Buck on the train to the Happy Hunting Ground. Poor thing, she was being attacked by pirates."
However, sometimes dads have to work their magic in secret and alone, like an undercover agent. That's what I have been doing for the past two days, the most dangerous and heart-rending duty of them all: cleaning out the basement.
Basements, and sometimes attics, are used to store some things legitimately. Important, but seasonal items, like summer porch furniture, winter clothes or Christmas decorations. However, many of the things in my basement are there under false pretenses. Kind thoughts of passing them on to future generations, cousins or even unlucky friends have them all hiding in my cellar.
Some of this "squatting" junk in my storage area has been kept because: "Someday, these will really be worth something."
However, usually that only happens if only one or two of us foresighted investors keep them. There are basements full of Beanie Babies all over the planet, so I'm evicting mine. The rest of you can thank me later.

Teddy Bear Tea continues holiday tradition in the Q-C
Clara and her
nutcracker pirouette and Santa brings the toys kids want.
But the holiday season wouldn’t be until the teddy bears
have their tea.
For nearly 20 years, the Quad-City Arts Festival of Trees has held the Teddy Bear Tea, a special celebration for parents, grandparents, and children to put on their special holiday dresses and enjoy music, dancing and a real tea party.
For children who haven’t developed a taste for tea, milk and juice was available to sip from delicate cups on saucers and to wash down sweet desserts.
The group was treated Saturday to a dance performance from the Nutcracker by Ballet of the Quad-Cities.
Toni Turner, chairwoman of the event the last five years, says it’s all a part of the Festival of Trees fun.
"It goes along with everything else in Festival, being for kids and adults. This is a little more of a special occasion for families, a lot of kids dress up, and they enjoy everything together," she said.
Keeping with the teddy bear theme, many children brought soft stuffed animals to cuddle with.
Five-year-old Victoria Hahn of Davenport, left with even more cuddly fun than she came with. She was one of several raffle winners, her prize being two soft Beanie Babies and a treasury entitled "You and Me: My Little Bear Treasury."

A family tradition celebrates Thanksgiving far from home
Thanksgiving is the most Norman Rockwell of our national celebrations, the one day a year we are expected to trek to the ancestral home.
We gather to
carve up the big bird, surrounded by a line-up that can include
mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins
and relatives-to-be-named-later.
For the first quarter century of my life, Thanksgiving found me
at my parent's house in Long Beach enjoying the annual tour of
duty.
Santa Barbara:My wife and kids think of our Shih Tzu, Teddy, as part of the family, so one Thanksgiving we headed up Highway 101 to the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, just outside of Santa Barbara. It was a big – no, make that gignatic – splurge. Owned by Beanie Baby magnate Ty Warner (unfortunately, no relation), the hotel pampers its pet guests. Our dog's name, along with ours, were spelled out in burnt wood letters on the porch of our bungalow. One of the best Thanksgiving turkeys we've ever tasted (moist and sweet – not the usual bland bird) was delivered by room service, along with a big meat bone for Teddy. It was as big as he is. My wife loved strolling through the gardens, while the kids loved the bathtub with a television over the faucets. www.santabarbara.com.

A family adopts a set of siblings during the Adoption Saturday
Celebration
A total of 42 children were adopted Saturday at the Polk County Courthouse, but only one sported a tuxedo and black bow tie.
It was a very big day for 4-year-old Anthony Charles Moore.
His parents bought him the cool suit. Don't call them his foster parents anymore. As of 9:11 a.m. Saturday, Tom and Deanna Moore of Ankeny officially became Mom and Dad for Anthony.
And for his three older siblings: Alyssa, 10, T.J., 9, and Teri, 7.
Adoption officials say it's rare for a couple to adopt four children at once, but the Moores believed Anthony, his brother and his two sisters should remain together.

The U.S. Mint on Monday is unveiling designs for its newest additions:
dollar coins that will feature deceased presidents on a rotating
basis, similar to the popular state quarters.
The coins will enter circulation with George Washington on Feb.
15, four days before President's Day, and will be gold in color
like the Sacagawea to distinguish them from other coins. Like
the Sacagawea, they will be slightly larger than the quarter.

Target Issues Recall on "Kidz Toyz"
Target has
issued a voluntary recall on more than 190,000 of its "Kidz
Toyz" children's products.
Some of the toys contain lead paint, which is toxic if ingested
by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
The recall includes sets containing die-cast cars, dinosaurs,
trucks, boats and planes.
The packaging is primary blue and has the "Kool Toyz"

Upon A Star
Next weekend will feature some special auctions in aid of the
charity 'When You Wish Upon a Star' - dream making for sick children.

You may remember that we helped the charity last year. In December the charity sends 300 children to Lapland for a special day with Father Christmas. The charity works hard all year round to raise funds to enable them to grant children who suffer from life threatening illnesses their wish. It is humbling to see the charity rise to the challenge of granting so many and varied wishes throughout the year. As the founder says:
"A dream is a Wish the heart makes. As long as our brave children dream a Wish, we can and will, make their dream come true."
The founder of the charity, Barbara White, was awarded the OBE earlier this year for her tireless efforts to make a difference to these brave and courageous children. Barbara has signed Fun and Laughter Beanies and these will be offered along with items related to the charity, for auction. There will also be some special STAR packages such as Star Beanie signed by Sean Bean, and more.

'Teddy Bear Princess' honored by nonprofit
Hayley Crowell and her dad, Charlie, recently packed 10 boxes of Beanie Babies to give to the Boca Raton-based American Health Association. It took Hayley, 11, about a year to collect 2,344 of the stuffed animals.
Those animals are now en route to Iraq and will be given to children during the holiday season.
To recognize her accomplishment, the American Health Association named her "Teddy Bear Princess" the same Saturday they were preparing to ship 10,000 stuffed animals to Iraq and Africa. J. Robert Gordon, president of the association, said they gave her a crown for the honor.
"Nationally, we have thousands that collect teddy bears for us," Gordon said. "She's collected more for her age than anyone."

Adoption Connection, an Ankeny adoption agency, is sponsoring its annual drive for Beanie Babies for the fifth annual Adoption Saturday program at the Polk County Courthouse on Saturday.
Donations of new Beanie Babies can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. this week and throughout the year at Adoption Connection, 315 N. Ankeny Blvd.
The Beanie Babies will be given to children being adopted.
The Adoption Saturday event features an adoption information fair, an adoption celebration program with local dignitaries, and a time for families to finalize their adoptions in a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Village's Two Faces
FROM BEAUTY TO BLOWS: Montecito is such an anomaly — on Saturday, neighbors were bestowing air kisses in a most congenial fashion, but by Monday they’d squared off into varying political camps and seemed much closer to swapping punches than sipping punch!
Last Saturday was the 22nd Annual Montecito Association Beautification Day held in the Upper Village Green. Where else but Montecito would a garbage-pick-up event be kicked off by a buffet of freshly baked breads, sliced seasonal fruit, a variety of juices, and hot coffee poured from silver urns by uniformed waiters? This always-popular fall event attracts hundreds Montecito citizens, who, for showing up, are gifted with identically neutralizing green T-shirts.
However, in spite of the camouflage, there were interesting standouts in the crowd. For example, a team of enthusiastic Westmont students were volunteering right along side Laura Collector, who has been leading the opposition against Westmont’s proposed expansion. Sheriff Jim Anderson was heard countering a story that crime had risen in Montecito by 12 percent, explaining it was merely one additional incident that added the incriminating percentage.
Another intriguing Beautification Day contradiction came in the form of a generous gift from Ty Warner’s Four Season’s Biltmore made to his alleged antagonist: the Montecito Association! But by Tuesday morning, at a Board of Supervisors appeal hearing over a Biltmore beach staircase, the café diplomacy was cold and the only thing steaming was the ongoing rift between fans of the powerful developer and the association’s community protectors. (The board voted in favor of Warner's appeal.) However, while a BoS showdown may not be a great way to start the day, Montecitans are a sophisticated bunch and they know how to agree to disagree and still live in community harmony.

CHERISH AUCTIONS
I was so pleased to be able to attend the Ty UK Beanie Collectors Party on Friday evening and participate in this great fundraising event in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. The Ty UK team did the charity and the collectors proud with this special event. It was fun as well as fundraising.
I have put together a package of items that include the goody bag from this event, including the special Guest Pass on a lanyard and other collectable memorabilia, as well as Harrods Christmas Parade/Ty exclusives launch memorabilia - and of course Charles and Henry Beanies. This is the perfect package for those who would have loved to have been there, but couldn't.
Two other very special packages going up for auction (all proceeds from the CHERISH Harrods auctions going to research into children's cancers) are Charles and Henry in display boxes with the special launch day certificates - more than that, each bear has been signed on its hang tag and on its certificate by none other than Mohamed Al Fayed, owner of Harrods store!!! Charles has also been signed on his paw, which Mr Al Fayed thought was better as these bears do not come with the blank hang tag. I have not heard of any other of these new bears being signed by Mohamed Al Fayed; indeed, someone who tried to obtain signatures when Mr Al Fayed was signing bears for CHERISH was moved on by his security staff. Mr Al Fayed has always been very kind about signing bears for CHERISH so I was delighted to be able to find him in the store yesterday and ask him to do this once again. He is a well-known supporter of charities, in particular those that benefit children, and founder of the Al Fayed Charitable Foundation that helps various children's charities.

I called back later, 1:00PM, and they told me you were allowed

from the BestBuy.com site. I live about an hour from all the nearest
Best buy stores. As luck had it, I was near one of them Sunday,
but I had no idea about the Beanie yet, it figures haha.
So I was very pleased to see I could order him online. The Beanie was $6.99 without purchasing any additional DVD or items. The shipping was only $1.79 (UPS Ground) and they charged me .49 tax (I'm in NJ). Foster-care youths get artful luggage
The Love Luggage project has come to Charlotte, thanks to McKenzie Cox, a 16-year-old junior at Charlotte Catholic High School who lives in Ballantyne.
Trudy and Dave Cox, McKenzie's parents, help behind the scenes as needed, but it's clear that this is McKenzie's passion and responsibility.
Love Luggage volunteers transform ordinary hard-sided luggage into works of art, then give the suitcases to children and teens in foster care. Such children often show up with only a garbage bag to hold their belongings, so getting a piece of luggage of their very own is important.
McKenzie has chosen the Barium Springs Home for Children to receive the first Love Luggage pieces in this area. The Barium Springs Home, near Statesville, serves children and families through a variety of programs, including residential and foster care. Most come from abusive, neglectful or unstable homes.
Zachery Cox, McKenzie's brother, a fourth-grader at Endhaven Elementary School, is donating some of his Beanie Babies so the suitcases aren't empty.

TY Launch
Harrods is delighted to reveal two new Ty exclusive beanies on 4th November, Charles and Henry. Due to huge demand, customers are limited to 12 of Charles and 6 of Henry, or a single piece boxed and with a certificate.
I'll be checking this information out first thing in the morning, but I can reveal something more about the auction at the Party, which might help the avid collector!
The full auction list will be finalized tomorrow.....and each auction winner will receive a certificate signed by Mark Swallow allowing them to purchase a boxed bear without queuing the next day!!!!

Susan Green shares the following update on the Special Olympics
Ms. Janie,
There is a possibility that there will be a retail set of the Special Olympic Canada Beanies, but IF they are released there will be a big difference between those and the set that is Exclusive to Special Olympics Canada.
I can only state what is going to be on the hang tag for the Beanies in the Exclusive set because it hasn't even been determined that a retail version will be issued. The difference is going to be on the order of the retail version of Deuce and the Deuce Beanie that was exclusive to the 2006 U.S. Open.
The shipment
of these exclusives left TY last Thursday and Brain is eagerly
awaiting delivery of the 1000 numbered Beanies.
The hang tags on the Exclusive set will have a medal for bravery
on the inside left ....gold, silver, or bronze... depending on
which Beanie it is. There will also be a numbered holo sticker
on the right side, under the poem on the Exclusive set.
None of these will appear on a retail version, if a retail version is released.

Hi Ms. Janie,
Go figure I was near a Best Buy Store yesterday on Sunday but
didn't think to go in... Besides that is the last place I would
expect to look for Beanie Babies let alone Exclusive one's. Anyway
I did call Best Buy to see if they could set one aside for me
until tomorrow on Tuesday the 31st since I am also headed out
of town that way anyway but they said that they have plenty but
now I Just got off the phone and they are going to hold a Jimmy
Timmy Power Hour 3 Nick DVD for me and a Mr. Krabs because they
said they are surprisingly beginning to run out. Amazing what
changes from Monday Morning to Monday Evening..LOL!! So anyway
the main reason I am contacting you is that I am surprised that
They don't list Mr. Krabs full name. His Full name is Mr. Eugene
Krabs. That is correct his first name is Eugene Krabs. Also I
have noticed there have been a few people misspelling the name
of this new Spongebob Beanie. It is not spelled Crabs but rather
his last name is Spelled Krabs. Also I found interesting is that
it does not refer to Mr. Krabs as a beanie baby but rather a Plush

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the CHERISH fundraising during September/October in aid of Cancer Research UK's campaign against breast cancer. We have raised around £1000 and have the proceeds of these final eBay auctions to add to that total.
The items on offer are, I believe, really wonderful collectables and cover all budgets. For those of you who have ceased to collect Beanies to the extent that you once did, there are even some packages without any Beanies at all - these include beautiful breast cancer awareness items such as pins, coins and phone charms - some of them limited editions.
There are Japanese
promotional Beanies on offer - some rarely seen for sale after
their initial release. There are some original packages made up
of items donated by supporters, including hand-made Beanie kimonos.
There is also a Cure Beanie signed by a British Olympic medallist
- Campbell Walsh - who won a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Games
for canoe slalom. Campbell's achievements have been several since
then and he has great hopes for the 2008 Olympics!

Hi Ms. Janie
Thank you so much for your link yesterday to the beanie offered
at Best Buy. I went to Best Buy, but they thought they couldn't
put them out until Tuesday...however, knowing the info in advance,
I could tell them that today is the start of the promo, so they
went in the back to get out the beanie. Attached are photo's of
the beanie and inside the hang tag.
I bought 1 DVD for $12.99 that I'll donate to Toys 4 Tots, and got 1 free beanie with that, then I bought a few for $6.99 each. They had a letter advising how to put the sku in the computer, but I mentioned that they may just want to try scanning the bar code at the back, and that worked.

2007 postage stamps to feature kisses, birds and bees, singer, actor, more.
A man who had
a wonderful life, went to Washington and later was accompanied
by a giant white rabbit will be a highlight of the Postal Service's
new commemorative postage stamps for 2007.
James Stewart will be featured on the 13th Legends of Hollywood
stamp.
The actor,
who took time out to become a decorated hero in World War II,
appeared in more than 80 movies including starring in "It's
a Wonderful Life," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"
and "Harvey."
Next year's honoree in the Black Heritage series will be Ella
Fitzgerald, widely known as the first lady of song for her great
vocal range, flexibility, and the joy and excitement she brought
to music.
As usual, a Love stamp will mark Valentine's Day. This year it
features the famed Hershey's kiss candy, introduced in 1907 and
still popular.
Since Valentine romance can be followed by marriage, there will
be special wedding stamps decorated with heart-shaped vines.
So, does all
that lead to the new birds and bees stamps?
Not exactly. These stamps call attention to the important service
such creatures perform in pollinating plants. The set of four
will feature hummingbirds, bumble bees, a butterfly and a bat.
From comic book heroes like Hulk and Spiderman to the beautiful northern lights and stately lighthouses, there's something for just about everyone planned for nest year's stamps.

Hi Ms Janie,
It's already known that Harrods will be launching 2 beanies on
Saturday 4th November... I can confirm that there will be another
bigger friend with them!
A certain number of the beanies will be boxed and numbered, like the Shooting Stars were last year...... but how many?....we'll have to wait and see!
However, the "Number 1" of both beanies will be auctioned on Friday night at the Ty Collectors Party...and they have both been signed by Mohammed Al Fayed, the owner of Harrods! These will be among at least 20 items in the auction, including some Ty memorabilia never seen before - a full list will be published during next week, and I will send more information when I can.
The Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity will accept credit cards as well as cheques and cash....and I can also confirm that there will be phone lines available for bidders who are not able to attend. There have already been enquiries about this, so contact Ty UK if you want to take part!
Light refreshments and a bar will be available, and confirmation emails will be sent to those who have registered by the end of this week - this promises to be a very special evening!!

Not long to wait now for the launch of the Harrod's bears on Saturday
4th November - but there's an extra this year -
current UK members of the BBOC have been receiving emails today
from Ty UK inviting them to a Beanie Baby Collector's Party the
night before!
This special charity event will be held at the Millennium Hotel,
in Knightsbridge, London between 7pm and 10pm on Friday 3rd November
and all proceeds will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's
Charity.
During the evening there will be a charity auction, a swap shop,
a beanie quiz and unique collector's Ty memorabilia...as well
as the opportunity for members to meet each other informally.
The event will be limited to 200, and I know that members are
already signing up to be there - it looks like it's going to be
an exciting night, and a great prelude to the next day!

2,344 beanie babies to send to children in Iraq
She collected 2,344 beanie babies.
"People have donated them by the hundreds," she said.
Donations came from all over, including a teacher in Wellington, a neighbor, the Humanitarian Society of Boca Raton, and even the makers of Beanie Babies, Ty Corporation.
Scott Wehrs, Chief Operating Officer for Ty Corporation, said the company wanted to help when they read an article in the Boca Raton News, the article was published April 14 and described Crowell’s efforts to collect beanie babies.
"We picked up on the story and called her parents. We thought what she was doing was something very special," Wehrs said.
Ty Corporation sent more than 1,000 beanie babies to Crowell. Wehrs said the company had donated the product in the past to others who wanted to provide children in Iraq with comfort.

Ms. Janie,
I just wanted to let you know that the names of the new Beanies are Courageous, Courageously & Courageousness, as you stated back in September.
They are going to be white bears with the Special Olympics logo on the chest and red maple leafs on the ears and foot pads.
Courageous will have a gold nose, Courageously will have a silver nose, and Courageousness will have a bronze nose.
The inside left of the hang tag will have a medal for bravery....gold, silver, or bronze....depending on which Beanie it is.
There will also be a numbered holo sticker on the right side, under the poem.
My understanding is that there were only be 1,000 Beanies total, a maximum of 333 sets. There will be less than 333 complete sets due to selling some of them as singles.

Police chief lends hand in Romania
Since then, Romania has joined NATO and formed stronger ties to Western Europe.
In order to join the European Union, the Romanian government is required to provide anti-corruption training to law enforcement and other governmental agencies, he said. Romania is set to join the EU on Jan.1, 2007.

What can I say? The display bug has bitten me this last week or
so haha. It's all these great new Beanies keeping my whimsy inspired.
Do not adjust your monitor. You are not seeing spots in this next
shared pic. You're seeing Chocolate Chips haha! And since no one
can eat just one, some of my other plush chocolate chip friends
are on hand to welcome the Beanies.
This may be of interest to those awaiting delivery of their Midwest Beanies. They just posted my UPS Tracking number today and the UPS guy already delivered them! I'm so glad to finally have these bears in hand. Their cookies are just awesome. The fur is too cool and the chips on them are even raised to the touch! As you may know, Roger is in Tokyo right now. He also says hello and thanks you for your support. He’s writing a blog on ATPtennis.com this week, and I can tell he’s having a fantastic time during his first visit to Japan! I wish I could’ve gone there with him, but I had to make a side trip to visit the nice folks over at Ty, the manufacturers of Beanie Babies®, who needed my consultation on a few bear-related things. Hopefully I’ll be back on the road shortly though, as I’m itching to travel the tour! I especially can’t wait to get to Shanghai for the Tennis Masters Cup. Roger says it’s an amazing tournament and city.
The ATP will soon be sending you the exact details in order to purchase me off the internet for $8, of which proceeds will go to UNICEF. I will be making my big debut this December in time for you all to own me for the holidays. I noticed that with the changes made in the Ty Store, you can
now find out the style number of the beanie without having to
wait until you receive it and get the number off the box.
You just click
"Add" under the item and then go to "checkout"
and you'll see the style number under "item number".
This is really helpful, especially if I don't plan on ordering
the beanie. Previously I've had to wait until someone receives
their beanie or write to Ty customer service and ask them for
the style number.

Dagan Rossini feeds 1,000 children in Honduras
This August, Dagan Rossini of Olmstead Hill Road went to Honduras with $3,000 and fed 1,000 children.
Dagan, a sophomore at Wilton High School, went to Teupasenti, Honduras, in August, and found that the country that was hit by Hurricane Mitch eight years ago is still devastated by that disaster.
"A lot of the men left their family when the hurricane hit because they had to go to the city to look for jobs. A lot of the people down there have only one, if any, pairs of clothing, and there are no baths so they’re really dirty," said Dagan in an interview with The Bulletin.
Dagan went to the country with the mission group Children’s Rescue Mission, which is based out of Norwalk. He became involved with the group through a friend of his mother’s who goes on the program every year, but this was not Dagan’s first involvement with Honduras. When he was in third grade, his class collected beanie babies and canned goods to send to Honduras in the wake of Hurricane Mitch.

UK time. All proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research UK for
research into Breast Cancer.

You can read
the ordering details on the website and see many photographs of
these lovely bears. There are 10 each of Aware and Awareness Beanie
- the 2005 and 2006 Ty bears, which have already been sold to
raise money for a similar cause (the Susan G Komer Foundation
in the USA). The bears will come beautifully packaged in pink
tissue and gift bags.
Jennifer (aka PattiBuddy) has so kindly knitted sweaters for all
of these bears, in glorious shades of pink, each sweater different
to the others. The sweaters on the Aware Bears are striped and
have an awareness ribbon symbol beaded onto the front; the sweaters
on the Awareness bears have the symbol incorporated into the knitted
design. The bears come with an array of accessories, including
the special Canadian Breast Cancer Awareness quarter, a Breast
Cancer Care bracelet, a Cancer Research UK pin badge and CHERISH
commemorative card and postcard with a 5 point guide to breast
checks. Aware comes with a special CHERISH mobile phone dangles
sporting a CHERISH Italian charm and Awareness with an awareness
ribbon print bean bag seat. Each bear is numbered on the back
of its extra ear tag (1-10) and wears a CHERISH leather ear tag
and neck ribbon.
You will need to be quick in ordering as these are very limited
in number! However, there will be one extra of each bear offered
through bidding auctions on eBay, along with many other pink-themed
goodies to suit all budgets. These will include Japanese promotional
Beanies, Ty Store exclusives, Cancer Awareness items from around
the world and handcrafted items. I am also hoping to offer something
very unusual - it will appeal more to British collectors, I imagine
- in particular, fans of the TV series 'Bad Girls' - watch this
space!
