McDonalds Teenie Beanie Update June 21, 1999

The Teenie Beanie promotion is varied widely throughout the country.
1. Purchase 1 food item and have the opportunity to buy up to 10 Teenie Beanies.
2. Purchase 1 food item and you are allowed to buy up to 5 Teenie Beanies.
3. Teenie Beanies are ONLY allowed to be purchased with the sale of a Happy Meal or Combo Meal.
4. A lot of stores are selling the Teenie Beanies in their designated order and are still on # 1
5. MOST stores are allowing you to purchase styles 1 through 4 with any food item with a total of 5 or 10 Teenie Beanies.
McDonalds stores selling styles 1 through 4 have the largest customer base and will move product faster and satisfy their customers needs.
Many stores have opted to only sell Teenie Beanies with Happy Meals or Combo meals.
I look for these stores to make a policy change and offer either more styles or allow customers to purchase up to five with any food item.
Stores on the West Coast have witnessed a slight decline in sales, while stores on the East Coast are selling product rapidly.

1999 Teenie Beanies Finally Arrive!

David Amusu and Marie Williams

MCDONALDS MANAGERS: Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, VA

The excitement has been building and the waiting is almost over!

Tomorrow McDonalds 1999 Teenie Beanies will make their collectible debut! This year's collection promises to be hotter than ever! With the introduction of the first International Bears, McDonalds expects larger crowds and excited collectors.

During my 1998 McDonalds interview I was asked to work the next year's promotion. I wholeheartedly agreed and took the challenge.
I can honestly say that while in training, I quickly realized that serving burgers and fries was not as easy as expected!

McDonalds prides itself on cleanliness and employees are constantly mopping floors, wiping tables and greating customers with friendly smiles.

During my training I took the opportunity to interview two McDonalds Managers.

David Amusu (Store Manager) and Marie Williams (1st Asst. Manager) were very responsive, cooperative and answered the following questions.

How excited are you about this promotion?
David replied by stating that he had a mixture of emotions. He realizes that Teenie Beanies are very popular and anticipates larger crowds than normal..
He also stated that his employees appear to be excited and looking forward too tomorrow.

Will you follow the guidelines from McDonalds?
David - We will sell our Teenie Beanies in their designated order. Most of the stores will follow the rules and guidelines distributed by McDonalds.

How many Teenie Beanies are allowed to be purchased at one time and what are the rules for your establishment?
David - At this point we are undecided. We initially had planned on distributing the Teenie Beanies only with Happy Meals, or allowing customers to purchase up to two Teenie Beanies with their total order. We are currently rethinking our position and will reveal our details on the day of the promotion.

Has the special employee bear made a difference in this promotion?
David and Marie - Employees are VERY excited about the special McDonald employees bear.
The bear will be distributed after the promotion to employees for showing up on time and working during the promotion.

Have the phones starting ringing from collectors? Are collectors excited about the promotion?
Marie - Our phones started ringing over two months ago! Once the news got out collectors started looking for any type of information they could find. They asked questions like, when are they coming? Which ones will be sold? How many are there?

Do you anticipate this year's promotion to be as hot as last years?
David & Marie - Both agree that this promotion definitely differs because of the International Bears but are a little concerned about the short time span between releases. In their opinion, this time span will create a frenzy!

How many Teenie Beanies were allotted to each store location?
David - The distribution of Teenie Beanies depend on the volume of each store sales.

Teenie Beanies have been sold on e-bay and at collectible shows. They have even been publicized in magazines before the promotion. Will this have any effect on future Teenie Beanie promotions?
David - That's a difficult question to answer. Its almost impossible to have total control over a promotion this large. McDonalds has issued strict guidelines about the presales of Teenie Beanies and would probably prefer that they are the ones to unveil their own product. McDonald stores can and will be penalized if they are caught not following the rules. Its my understanding that if stores are caught violating the rules, they will either not participate in any future Ty/McDonalds promotion or will only receive one case of Teenie Beanies.

I would like to thank David and Marie for the training and this interview. They have agreed to allow me to update my readers throughout the promotion.
Stay tuned for additional interviews, articles and pictures.

The cream of the crop! International Bears.

Here's hoping everyone has sweet dreams tonight about burgers, fries and the 1999 Teenie Beanies.
