Cherishing Memories

Do not allow your faded photographs to become a past memory. Preserve and protect what is most precious.

Every now and then you run across somebody who is so gifted that you feel compelled to share her with others!

Sandie Friedland and I have known each other for many years, I have come to depend on her support, wisdom and knowledge. She is a incredible artist, one who displays skill, talent and compassion in her magnificent works of art. She captures her subjects using her palette of colors and makes them come to life on canvas. Sandie’s skill is not limited to portraits, she also designs company logo’s, dabbles in graphic design, photo restoration, and much more. During her last visit to Virginia, Sandie took photographs of my three girls, Noel, Holly and Faith. Much to my surprise she went home and immediately went to work on creating a masterpiece. The sample of her painting is better than I could have ever imagined. She captured the mischievousness in Faith’s eyes, the loyalty in Noel and the sweet and soft side of Holly.

Sandie has a generous spirit and supports many worthy causes. She recently was commissioned, through auction to paint three special portraits for the Animal Rescue Charity Event in Vegas. She works with non-profit rescue organizations and animal-related Clubs to raise funds for animal rescue, care, rehabilitation and re-homing. She donates a portion of her proceeds and provides portrait gift certificates for special events . April 20, 2007, was an exciting and exhilarating day! Over 200 poker players, poker celebrities, and noted figures in the entertainment industry gathered at Caesars Palace in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, to participate in a charity event. The event, titled Jennifer Harman* Charity Poker Tournament brought in over $125,000 which went directly to the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA)! That money will be used to renovate and enhance the sanctuary and to further promote humane education and services for the safety and rehabilitation of rescued animals. The event included a live auction of items donated by celebrities in the fields of sports, entertainment and the arts. Up for bid was an electric guitar signed and donated by one of the members of the famous band Motley Crew. Other donations for auction came from such sport celebrities as Tiger Woods, Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach to name but a few. All brought impressive bids from the attendees and, an item among the highest dollar achievers was the donation of Las Vegas local animal artist and NSPCA supporter, Sandie Friedland. When her donation of one painting of the winners companion animal went up for bid, the room became animated and the bidding war began. Sandie, fortunately in attendance, was asked to donate additional works to accommodate the highest multiple bidders. She agreed and, in the end, not one; but three high bidders were to be the recipient of a painting by this talented artist! She alone brought in $4,500 for the NSPCA! This restored photo by Sandie brings her subject forward, shows expression in the eyes, which had been lost over time and offers clarity.

This represents an original photo given to Sandie by a grandfather who wished to have his granddaughter painted.
I have asked Sandie to share her story behind this photo and art.

Sandie's Story on Emma
Emma's Grandfather showed me this photo of Emma that he was oh-so-proud-of.
I told him that I could do a painting of Emma that would far surpass his cherished photo. He didn't think I could do any such thing! To prove his point, he commissioned me to do a painting. Upon completion of painting I went to him and asked him to close his eyes and turn his back to me. At that point, I held the painting in front of me and asked him to turn around to see if I had met his "challenge". He turned around, opened his eyes and quickly drew his hands up to his face and started sobbing! I was stunned but said: Gee, I guess I did my job well. He LOVES the painting and wanted a copy to put in his wallet. Later he told me that he removed the photograph from his wallet and replaced it with the small copy of the painting I gave him. I thought, what a wonderful compliment to my work! This is the painting:

The likeliness is uncanny, Emma is a beautiful child and Sandie has captured her well.

I’ve often times said, you can not put a price on loved ones and preserving their memories and your time together. When I consider the amount of time that is dedicated to creating a masterpiece, not to mention the many steps that are required to achieve the end result, it amazes me what Sandie charges to perform these delicate task.

She simply is the BEST!
