ebay - www.ebay.com will
be making an announcement on their website shortly:
Sally Winey, a renowned plush designer, has created a set of brand
new bears. ebay, Antiques & More and I-escrow are sponsoring an
online auction of these bears. 100% of the profits from this auction
will be donating to the National Coalition for the Homeless.
There were only 250 sets of these bears made and then production
ceased. The first group of 100 sets will be placed on ebay during
the first week in December (exact date TBA) and will be auctioned
off in a Dutch Auction. These are expected to go off at approximately
$300 since the production numbers are low and will be gaining
nationwide media attention.
The NCH is extremely honored that they were chosen to receive
all of the proceeds from this auction. They also will be releasing
numerous press articles to create more public awareness of this
auction and the purpose of their foundation. Details and pictures
of the Sally Winey Bears will be placed on the ebay and NCH websites
shortly.
A Description of the Bears that
will be auctioned:
There is a TOTAL of 250 sets of these bears, Millennium Myrtle,
a Baby Boomer Mom and Y2K Jacob, her son born the last decade
before the New Millennium. Their goal is to wipe out the problem
of homelessness by the year 2000. They are launching a media blitz
via the Internet to raise public awareness. The number of homeless
children in America has been the segment of the homeless population
that has increased the most in the last decade. This HAS to stop
and you can help.
These bears are ready to be shipped and you can have them
in your homes before the holidays. We will have scanned pictures
on ebay and on the NCH website shortly, so that you may view them.
Each bear is signed by the designer, Sally Winey. In addition,
you will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity which will
be numbered and hand signed by Millennium Myrtle and Y2K Jacob.
Both bears have black satin ribbons with their name in gold lettering.
These bears are expected to be highly collectible since they
are the first of the Year 2000 collectibles and 100% of the profits
from these bears is being donated to the National Coalition of
Homeless charity.
The definition for Homeless is as follows:
Person or persons without a shelter or permanent residence. Someone
who does not have the resources to obtain housing.
A.
Many children under the age of 18 are Homeless.
B.
The number of homeless families has increased over the past decade.
Families with children make up approx. 40% of people who are homeless.
C.
40% of homeless men have served in the military.
Why some people end up Homeless.
Two factors are responsible for the increase in homelessness
over the last 15 to 20 years.
A.
Shortage of affordable housing
B.
Increase in poverty.
In 1996 14.4 million people had incomes less than half the
poverty level. These figures represent a large increase from l995.
Forty percent of these figures are children living in poverty.
Other factors, which have an adverse effect on Homelessness,
are as follows:
Lack of Affordable Health Care, Domestic Violence, Mental
Health and Chemical Dependency.
How you can help the Homeless.
Working with Homeless people can be very rewarding and gratifying.
Why not consider volunteering at a shelter or a soup kitchen.
The holidays are especially hard on the homeless. Why not share
some of your gifts with people who really need and appreciate
them?
Other ways to volunteer are as follows:
Serve food or help wash dishes. Sort or distribute clothes.
Help build or fix homeless shelters. Offer any sort of professional
skill, plumbing, electrical, maintenance, carpentry, legal, medical
etc.
Why not consider allowing your family to learn the true meaning
of helping a fellow man. Families could form groups and assist
the homeless in art projects, singing, dancing, etc. The sky is
the limit.
Contributions:
Homeless shelters are always in need of clean clothing, shoes,
coats and blankets. Why not donate household goods such as books,
toys, games, stuffed animals and furniture.
Help to educate your family and community about the homeless.
Get involved and get homeless children off the streets and into
shelters or even better their own resident.
