Fourth Quarter
Make Or Break Time For Smaller Retailers

The 4th quarter has always been important for many retailers as sales during this time determine if they stay or go!

In light of the recent tragedy our nation is facing, retailers are facing a tragedy of their own. If 4th quarter figures are not what retailers hope for, a lot of them will be out of business.

Many retailers are facing shelves of overstocked products but face the dilemma of offering the latest and greatest this holiday season offers. They are not protected as the larger retailers are. Their buying power is not as mighty and their floor space is somewhat limited.

In observing consumer spending and mood changes, I would say that the 4th quarter had been shaping up nicely. As we all know each day brings a new set of problems and unfortunately the mood has changed from good to bad and consumers are tightening those purse strings.

While I would suggest for consumers to continue to be cautious, I would also like to remind you that our economy is vulnerable and your spending dollars are needed. Tuck a little away for a rainy day but continue to live life and enjoy the approaching holiday season.

This does not suggest that we forget the uncertainties facing our great nation but it does suggest that we take care of our own! Retailers and our economy are a big part of a pie that needs to be whole in order for all of us to thrive.

Due your part this holiday season! Visit your smaller local retailers, spend a buck and watch them smile! Let them know how much you appreciate their individualized attention and their constant efforts to provide you with merchandise, which is appealing and worth giving.

Here's wishing all retailers across this nation a successful 4th quarter!
